What It Is

Osteria Nero D'Avola takes its name from Sicily's most celebrated grape variety. It's on Piazza San Domenico, a few steps from the hotel of the same name (San Domenico Palace). The setting is that of an old Sicilian house with stone walls, arches and a medieval osteria atmosphere.

The cooking is traditional Sicilian with a few creative touches: cold and hot starters (little meatballs, tuna in lemon leaf), seafood first courses (fettuccine with swordfish, pasta with clams), fresh fish mains. The wine list is the strong point, with a wide selection of Sicilian labels.

Why Go

  • Sicilian wines: the list is broad and well curated. If you want to explore Etna wines, Nero d'Avola, Grillo, here you have plenty to choose from
  • Characterful setting: the room with stone arches and soft lighting has its charm, especially at dinner
  • Quiet location: Piazza San Domenico is out of the Corso's crush, while still in the old town
  • Generous portions: you won't leave hungry

Practical Info

  • Address: Piazza San Domenico 2/B, 98039 Taormina

  • Reservation: advised for dinner in summer
  • Accessibility: ground-floor room; reaching Piazza San Domenico involves some of the ups and downs typical of the old town (stone paving).
