Cookie Policy — MyTaormina
Last updated: 2026-05-28.
Summary
- MyTaormina uses only technical cookies, for which the law requires no consent
- The only cookie set is
NEXT_LOCALE, which remembers your chosen language - Site statistics are collected anonymously and without cookies (Vercel Analytics)
- No profiling, marketing or third-party cookies → this is why we do not show a consent banner
For full details, see below.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device while you browse. Similar technologies (e.g. localStorage) have similar effects. By purpose, cookies are distinguished into technical (necessary for operation and security), statistical (measure visits) and profiling/marketing (track behaviour, including by third parties).
Under Article 122 of the Italian Privacy Code (Legislative Decree 196/2003) and the Italian Data Protection Authority's cookie Guidelines of 10 June 2021, only technical cookies may be used without consent; any other purpose requires the user's prior consent.
2. Cookies used by this site
MyTaormina uses technical cookies only. It is a read-only site, with no account and no login.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
NEXT_LOCALE | Technical, first-party | Remembers your chosen language (IT/EN); set only when you manually change language | 1 year |
Storing the language is treated as technical because it delivers a service explicitly requested by the user and requires no consent (Italian DPA Guidelines 2021, para. 3.2.1).
Data stored in localStorage
Data saved in localStorage stays exclusively on your device, serves a functional purpose (delivery of a service explicitly requested by the user) and is never transmitted to the Controller or to third parties. The keys actually used are:
| Key | Purpose | When it is written |
|---|---|---|
mytaormina_favorites_poi | List of POIs saved as favourites | When you add/remove a POI from favourites |
mytaormina_favorites_itinerary | List of itineraries saved as favourites | When you add/remove an itinerary from favourites |
mytaormina:itinerary-visited:{slug} | Tracks stops already visited for a given itinerary (one key per itinerary) | When you tick a stop as visited on the itinerary map |
mytaormina_pwa_dismissed | Remembers that you dismissed the "install as app" prompt, so it is not shown again | When you dismiss the PWA prompt |
You can delete them at any time from your browser settings (see section 6) or by removing favourites from the dedicated page. None of these keys allows you to be identified or tracked across different sites.
3. Statistics without cookies
Site usage statistics are collected via Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights in aggregate, anonymous form, without cookies and with no persistent fingerprinting (metrics are tied to an anonymous visitor hash that rotates daily). As no cookies or persistent identifiers are used, no consent is required. More details in the Privacy Policy.
4. Third-party cookies
None. The site embeds no third-party widgets, embeds or trackers that set cookies.
Map tiles and US data transfer. The interactive map uses OpenStreetMap base tiles delivered via the CARTO CDN (basemaps.cartocdn.com — CARTO, Inc., New York, USA). When the map loads, your browser sends CARTO the request IP and technical metadata required to serve the tiles (no cookies, no persistent fingerprinting). This constitutes a transfer of technical personal data to a third country (USA) under Chapter V GDPR; the transfer relies, cumulatively, on the European Commission Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC, Decision 2021/914) and on CARTO's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF) where applicable. See the Privacy Policy for the legal basis (legitimate interest in rendering the map) and data-subject rights. No profiling cookies are set.
5. Why we do not show a consent banner
Because the site uses only technical cookies and cookieless statistics, under the Italian DPA Guidelines 2021 and Article 122 of the Privacy Code a consent banner is not mandatory: this notice is sufficient. A consent banner will become necessary only if non-technical cookies are introduced in the future (e.g. cookie-based analytics, third-party embeds, tracked affiliations): in that case this policy will be updated and consent will be requested before installation.
6. How to manage or delete cookies
You can view, delete and block cookies from your browser settings:
- Google Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Cookies and other site data
- Mozilla Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data
- Safari — Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data
- Microsoft Edge — Settings › Cookies and site permissions
Blocking the technical NEXT_LOCALE cookie does not prevent browsing the site, but your chosen language may not be remembered between visits.
7. Changes to this Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy may be updated when the set of cookies used by the site changes (for example following the integration of new tools). The last-updated date is shown at the top of the page. If non-technical cookies are introduced, consent will be requested before their installation.
