What It Is

Tischi Toschi is a small trattoria in an alley near Taormina Cathedral, recognized with three snails by the Slow Food guide — the highest accolade. The concept is simple: there's no printed menu. Every day the cook goes to the market, buys the best available, and cooks that.

The produce comes from all over Sicily: Trapani tuna, Ragusa cheeses, Nebrodi mushrooms, fish from the Strait. The menu is told out loud, and changes completely from one day to the next. Few covers, no pretence of décor — plain tablecloths, stone walls, zero frills.

Why Go

  • Certified Slow Food: three snails aren't handed out at random. The quality of the raw ingredients is the absolute strong point
  • Honest cooking: no Instagram presentations, no foams. Dishes that taste of what they are
  • Real seasonality: it's not a marketing claim — if an ingredient isn't at the market, it isn't on the plate
  • Authentic experience: the spoken menu, the few tables, the private-home atmosphere. It's the opposite of the tourist restaurant
