What It Is

Bam Bar is Taormina's best-known bar for granita. Located on Via Giovanni di Giovanni, just off the heart of the Corso, it has over the years become an almost obligatory stop for anyone visiting the town.

The specialty is artisanal Sicilian granita served with warm brioche (gluten-free also available). Main flavours: almond, lemon, peach, strawberry, pistachio, mulberry. The almond granita is the most typical of the Messina tradition. People have it for breakfast, or as an afternoon snack — in Taormina, granita is eaten at any hour.

Why Go

  • Granita: it's the product the place exists for, and they do it well. Creamy texture, clean flavours, fresh brioche
  • Sicilian breakfast: granita and brioche at 8 in the morning is an experience worth the holiday. If you've never tried it, this is the right place to start
  • Seasonal flavours: in summer there's mulberry (mulberry granita is impossible to find outside Sicily), in spring strawberry
  • Gluten-free options: gluten-free brioche available, fruit granita (dairy-free) clearly marked
